Disabled people are sometimesThese stereotypes may lead teachers and parents to believe that disabled people are not interested in sex or are not capable of having fulfilling relationships. But Lyric Holmans knows that barring a disabled student from sex ed doesn’t actually prevent them from having sex.

The disability community is not a monolith, and learning about disability in sex ed classes can actually benefit everybody. All bodies are different, and every person will respond to sexual sensations differently. Ryann Mason isShe told me that disability can “drastically alter one’s perception of pleasure, not to mention changing a person’s actual sexual anatomy. For these patients to truly adapt to their newly disabled bodies, sexual health needs to be taught by medical professionals.”
