.MaddowBlog: The promotion of Biblical values are the responsibility of families and churches. So why does Gov. Noem wants to get the government involved?

It's hardly a secret that South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem is trying to raise her national visibility and score points with the Republican base ahead of the 2024 election cycle. What's of greater interest, however, is how the GOP governor is trying to advance her ambitions.

yesterday that Americans should look at officials' actions to determine whether they"line up with the word of God" and"see if they're Biblical." I won't pretend to know how well Noem understands the law and relevant court rulings pertaining to religious liberty. Perhaps the governor knows the truth and uses rhetoric like this to advance her political ambitions; perhaps she's genuinely confused. For example, when Noem said she'll introduce a proposal to"allow us to pray in schools again," she's pushing for a right that already exists. Voluntary school prayer was never removed from schools.

MaddowBlog My soul. My choice.

MaddowBlog Exactly what religion would they be teaching? Go to church or Sunday school for that kind of instruction. Leave public schools out of it.

MaddowBlog Gov Noem’s is a liar. This is not about religious values, it is about being re-elected, as it is with all politicians. She succeeds in denying “religious freedom for all” by coming out on the side of Christian monotheism and faith practice insecurity for all others.

MaddowBlog Maybe because the media has no values….. you can relate

MaddowBlog Their praying to get rid of noem. Gnome.

MaddowBlog This woman should be prosecuted for purposely putting citizens at risk

MaddowBlog Prayer has not been removed from schools. Everyone is allowed to pray. The only restriction is that no one is compelled to pray.

MaddowBlog Because she is pandering to her supporters culture war. Populism.
