Sheriff's deputies shot and arrested a 66-year-old man seen brandishing weapons along a busy highway in Bonsall Saturday morning, prompting an hourslong closure of state Route 76, officials said. The incident began about 11:35 a.m. when multiple people called the Sheriff's Department about a man holding a handgun while walking along Mission Road near Old River Road in Bonsall, San Diego police Lt. Steve Shebloski said. Some of the callers said the man also had a knife.
'This incapacitated the suspect, and he dropped the weapons he was holding.' The man was taken to a hospital with injuries that were considered non-life threatening, and he was later arrested on an outstanding warrant and on suspicion of assaulting an officer with a deadly weapon, the lieutenant said. The two deputies have been with the department for three and five years, respectively; neither was injured. Both work patrol out of the Sheriff's Department's Vista substation.
