Surprising. But true

Carried down slopes by submarine landslips, plastic objects accumulate in patches in the deep. Dr Song and Dr Peng had seen pictures showing sponges, corals and anemones on or near these accumulations. This led them to wonder about their ecology. So they went to have a look., a deep-diving submarine that carries a six-person crew. This descended nine times into the Xisha trough, a feature at the bottom of the South China Sea, in search of plastic objects.

To ensure their craft’s safety, the researchers collected objects only from the edge of each dump, and also collected some by dredging. In all, they obtained 33. Most were bags, bottles and food wrappers, but they picked up some derelict fishing ropes and traps as well.

Ripples from Texas abortion law spread to Illinois safe havenAn Illinois clinic, emblematic of a state that has deemed itself a safe haven for abortion care, is feeling the reverberations of the Texas abortion law in the form of dozens of women forced to travel hundreds of miles just to secure an appointment. Remember, in Texas a woman can be raped at gunpoint and could be forced to bear the child and furthermore, the rapist could sue the woman for visitation afterwards. Outrageous! America is not, by any means…The home of the free. It is the home of assorted groups trying to tell people what to do.
