D-FW home foreclosures begin to drift higher from pandemic lows

Almost 3,200 Dallas-Fort Worth homes were posted for foreclosure in the first half of 2023 after borrowers defaulted on loans, according to research by Attom...

Because of the pandemic, federal banking regulators ordered a moratorium on home foreclosures starting in 2020 and running through the middle of last year. Since then, the number of houses scheduled for foreclosure across the U.S. has slowly risen.

Foreclosure filings steadily declined until just 4,577 North Texas homes were scheduled for foreclosure between January and June of 2019. In North Texas, Dallas County had the most home foreclosure filings with 1,157 properties, followed by Tarrant County with 826 filings, Collin County at 296 and Denton County at 286 foreclosure notices.
