SAN ANTONIO - Crews battled a 2-alarm fire at a reported dangerous building structure on the Northeast Side .
The fire started around 8:30 a.m. Thursday at a building off East Mulberry Avenue near Margaret Avenue. San Antonio Fire Department spokesperson Woody Woodward said the building is a known dangerous structure, which means a lack of flooring, unstable and a risk of collapse made it unsafe for firefighters to go inside. This made it a challenge to exclusively fight the fire from the outside, including staging the equipment, the distance from the street to the building and excessive foliage in the area.
He said it wasn't known if anyone was inside at the time of the fire, but firefighters assisted in evacuating a woman in a neighboring building. She was being treated by paramedics for smoke inhalation. The building is a total loss and will likely be demolished by the city.
