Here are some of an expert's tips for navigating public disagreements about pandemic safety: ✅ Show mutual consideration ✅ Take steps to protect yourself ✅ Let go of actions that don't affect you Get the rest, and a printable pocket guide, here:

If you ask in a kind manner, people are likely to do as you ask, says Swann. More often than not, people want to be respectful of others.

The only time you should speak up, she says, is if it's directly affecting your safety. Then you can try using some of the"we" and"us" language in her suggestion above.4. What if I'm at a socially distanced outdoor gathering and, after a few hours, people start to bend the rules a little bit? Resist the urge to get on your soapbox, she adds."Don't make an announcement and say, 'Nobody's following the rules, and therefore I'm leaving' — then slam the door on your way out." You want to make sure that your relationships make it to the other side of the pandemic, she adds.5. A friend invited me to hang out. How do I know whether it's safe to do so? We might not be on the same page with the pandemic protocols.

1. Say 'Get the fuck away from me' 2. Group meal Nope. 3. Remind people that wearing a mask but not covering your nose is like wearing a condom with a hole in. Defeats the purpose. maskholes WearAMask

This lady told me that wearing a mask gives her anxiety. So I told her that the idea of getting COVID-19, ending up in the hospital and possibly dying, or transmitting it to someone my family, gives me anxiety. 😱

Haha NPR has to train its readers not to Karen, sad!

It's simple

Thank you for helping us navigate this dystopian hellscape which we will accept forever as long as it means we are safe

I only wear a mask whenever I go into a business

In most cases, the easiest and most effective step is to quietly back away yourself.

NPR: 'You have to let crazy be crazy' 😂😂😂

I'm sorry but people don't go to parties with masks especially with a drink in their hands and say this to the host(ess). This guide is seriously catering to hypersensitive ignoramuses; you can and should tell people bluntly what they're doing wrong.

Only thing missing from the illustration is the shoving of a camera phone in someone’s face white screaming at them...

I’ve never liked people I don’t know near me. I’m just weird like that. So I have certain moves that I make to help people understand. Don’t get near me.

keep your fingers in your ears singing LA LA LA and your masks pulled up over your eyes.

I know how. You mind your business.

CosmicChuck NYGovCuomo Can NYC colleges really open safely? Too many from states with high Covid coming. Everyone has sacrificed so much to save each others lives.Ask ppl losing homes if NYC can handle another shutdown so soon

Screw you, no. I'm not being polite to people literally trying to harm me and other people. I'm not asking someone to please pretty please get out of my space. A firm 'I need you to back up' works fine.

Where is Emily Post when we need her?

I've been known to do some fake coughing to keep people at a distance. It works, even through a mask.

Don't care either way. Fuck social distancing and the cowards who comply with the orders of inept, corrupt politicians. Hear that, GavinNewsom.

Have y'all heard about karens and kens?

How do you stop worrying over low-mortality-rate communicable disease?

If someone gets too close, turn towards them, lift your mask and say 'I think I'm going to puke'

I remember a phrase from another time...”Leave space for Jesus!” 😂

We all need to social distance away from taxpayers subsidizing NPR.

Not wearing a mask, not taking the vaccine. Now what are you gonna do?

“Back the fuck up”

Alternatively, you could just try to remember what your mother most likely taught you.

Where I shop has a robot voice on repeat saying 'please be kind to your fellow shoppers, maintain a safe distance. please follow the arrows, etc. '

Yeah, I've sort of moved past being kind to people who don't really deserve it.

Those without masks in stores are endangering the workers. I can leave the store but the cashier cannot and they may have been getting abused by customers who refuse to mask up. We should carry extra masks and offer them to the unmasked for the sake of the workers.

Either is as likely to start an argument with some people.

You’re a joke

Swing and a miss, NPR. But you did try. Nope. It’s confront and shame and make management protect their staff and customers from ignorant asshats. It’s life or death. Long passed polite.

When my wife tried nice, she got shoved into a produce table. When I tried nice I got spit on. Now i just say NRS 202.470, put your damned mask on!.

Do keep wearing that petri dish of warm, moist air, in which all viruses and bacteria thrive, around your face if this makes you feel safer. All good.

The issue I have with this is that in matters of public health, others' actions *are* affecting me and those I love, even if they're currently at a distance. I'm not suggesting being beligerant, but this article seems overly dismissive of the shared risk inherent in this crisis.

This is ridiculous. Truly. “Be more respectful, gentle, and polite to ppl who have literally *no respect or consideration* for everyone else who could get sick or die.”

When is it going to end 😢

How about: “I’m wearing a mask because i don’t know whether I’m an asymptomatic COVID carrier & I don’t want to chance infecting perfect strangers, like you.”

im in the don't crowd, if you don't want to wear a mask please stay home.

... I like the ones that come into stores waving fresh $100 bills being all loud and obnoxious. The one dude started licking the damn thing one time. Said he found it an ATM and needed some change. Dope heads.

You forgot to yell and call people racist. That’s part of the playbook for every social interaction now.

The only time I wear a mask is when I go into a business

I love but I don’t agree with condoning restaurant dining at all during a pandemic. That’s a luxury we can all manage to do without to reduce putting service staff— and all of us in general— at unnecessary risk. Don’t go out for dinner and wine, people, come on.

Nope. I tried the nice one and the man pulled down his mask and got closer to me.

Do: support employees dealing with anti-maskers Do: wear a mask in public. Do: ask for reasonable accommodations if you can’t wear a mask—which does not include ‘let me in there, even though I’m not wearing a mask’. Don’t: lie about the ADA or HIPPA to get out of masking up.

Fuck this. You realize COVID kills people? If someone were waving a loaded gun around, would you say, 'Excuse me sir, would you put a little space between us and your deadly weapon? A stray bullet might hit me'. Fuck no you would not. ENOUGH. THIS IS NOT OKAY.

And always, min mind your own business Karen
