Consumer confidence still wavers as the fate of the second stimulus remains unclear

Americans are feeling a bit more optimistic about their finances, but overall consumer confidence continues to waver nearly six months into the pandemic response.

The Ipsos U.S. Consumer Confidence Weekly Tracker—conducted Aug. 18 and 19— found that overall consumer confidence slipped 1.5 points this week to 48.7. Still, the confidence level is in line with the average over the past five months. Ipsos, which surveyed 948 respondents, provided the findings exclusively to Forbes Advisor.

Consumer confidence dropped in several key areas compared to the prior week: purchasing and investing, job security and respondents’ current financial situation. Americans’ confidence in their current financial situation was just 39.6, down two points from the prior week and down almost 14 points since the beginning of the pandemic. The future outlook for personal financial situations and employment increased by about half a point to 63.3.

Ipsos found that men, higher earners and Republican voters were the most confident. Women, lower-income earners and Democratic voters were the least confident.

Frustration festers during Senate recessSenate Republicans are expected to propose a new $500 billion relief program without a second round of $1,200 stimulus checks. I really, really doubt it. Republicans won't go for it. maybe yes, will arrive or be deposited around nov. 3rd. How come I only get $500 to be furloughed on unemployment but here we are wasting $200,000.00 on senatemajldr who doesn’t do anything?

Why there's still hope for second $1,200 stimulus checks despite stalled Congressional talksAs stimulus negotiations on Capitol Hill came to a halt, so did plans for quickly sending out another round of stimulus checks. But because more direct payments are popular on both sides of the aisle, they will likely still be included in the next legislative package. Here's what we know about when that could happen. acorns Because they need to feed Walmart. acorns lot of us don't need it because we're still working, but i'm not gonna pass up free cash acorns Well now we know Walmart will pressure the Republicans. They reaped the end benefits anyway....trickle up corporate socialism may be the best they can hope for in an election year.
