L.A. City officials haven’t spelled out consequences for firefighters and other city employees who don’t comply with the vaccination mandate by Dec. 18.

So let’s say that in two weeks, hundreds of Los Angeles city employees still defy the COVID-19 vaccination mandate.Well, we don’t know exactly. Wimpy city officials, who already moved back the compliance deadline in the face of resistance, still haven’t spelled out consequences for those who don’t comply by Dec. 18. Already, some city employees — including firefighters — are off-duty without pay for failing to sign notices informing them of the deadline.

The department is investigating a firefighter who is accused of a vulgar act after being given a letter to comply with the city’s vaccination mandate. Glazier, who was appointed by Mayor Eric Garcetti, asked a lot of tough questions about department policy and advocated unsuccessfully for greater emphasis on medical services, but he was rebuffed. He paid a price for not being a City Hall stooge and rolling over to the wishes of the administration and firefighter union: Garcetti replaced him.

Knight said that over the last few decades, the number of fire calls have decreased dramatically, while emergency medical calls have soared, and among the alternatives in play is a public-private partnership, in which emergency medical services are contracted.

Inmates that are already fighting fires in California need a good paying job when they get out.

Here’s to the 2 LA fire fighters that stood up and fought for their constitutional rights! The LA Times columnist is nothing but a Lemming!

Discrimination is fun when society lets you get away with it, huh?

100% agree. Time to clean house. LAFD are totally overpaid. They rip us off on overtime, get excessive base pay, get a big pension. Thousands of qualified applicants live up around the block for a single opening there. Dump them. lafd LAFDtalk MayorOfLA

Thank you for this description of the paramedic factor.

Their rebellious nature has cost them all their careers!

I love the idea of focusing on the service we need from firefighters -- paramedic support. Thank you LATstevelopez. I hope the MayorOfLA CD6Nury cd4losangeles PaulKoretzCD5 etc gives this idea serious consideration. We don't need emergency workers who don't trust science.

🔑🔑🔥🔥🔥🔥⌛⌛⌛🔑🔑 SI SEÑÓRES.

a year ago they were heros, what happened?

Wow, look at the psychos at Los Angeles times that are more interested in politics than the people that help them every day. This headline is absolutely sickening.

Byeeee

'And let’s hope the Cro-Magnon who allegedly took his mandate notice, wiped himself with it and dropped it on the floor of a station house in Pacific Palisades is the first to go.' Public health means nothing to the firefighters refusing vaccines.

💯

Do the cops next.

JoshMankiewicz Good riddance. Don’t let the door hit you in the ass on the way out. Might cause brain damage.

More precisely, b-bye

to the LA Times, bye

Spot on here. Hiring paramedics makes much more sense. And the chance to hire people who truly want to help people as opposed to wanting a “cool” job that pays well.

Way to act like a 5 year old L.A Times! Your shithole of a state has dozens of forest fires yearly and now with more firefighters lost, it's only going to get worse. 'Hey, this whole neighborhood burned down but at least the firefighters were all double vaxxed with 16 boosters!'

They are doing the work for us thinking they are hurting us by quitting and I love it!

Amen

Great column, LATstevelopez ! An opportunity indeed.

LAT, not a good way to act; these are public servants & your immaturity shows nothing more than the behavior of a teenager in a street fight, taunting other kids over the color of a gang’s jackets. Your politics and racism cards should be calming, not calcifying. Bye bye from me.
