DAVID MUNDEE Enterprise earned its first state tournament win since 2015 early Monday afternoon but lost two straight afterwards at the AHSAA Class 7A state softball championships in Oxford to end its season.
Enterprise finished the season with a 29-15 record and Dothan finished at 31-13-1. Both teams have the potential to be stronger next year. Enterprise had only four seniors and played a lot of freshmen, while Dothan has no seniors. A single and two walks in the first inning loaded the bases for Spain Park, but Frey got a fly out to end the threat. She walked two in the second, one intentionally, before getting a pop out to end that inning. She gave up a run in the third off a walk, a steal, a fly out and a sac fly.
Leading 2-1, Enterprise got an insurance run the bottom of the sixth. Sydney Neuwien, a courtesy runner for Frey, scored on a passed ball. Frey drew a walk earlier in the inning. Central-Phenix City 14, Enterprise 5: The Wildcats led 3-1 going to the fourth when the Red Devils erupted for 10 runs to take control of the game.
