"I was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma in September 2013 after battling a rare blood disorder in the hospital for 43 days. I battled lymphoma for two years. During this time, I underwent a splenectomy, countless rounds of chemotherapy, a failed stem-cell transplant and then a lifesaving clinical trial called CAR T-cell immunotherapy. I was the third patient in the world to undergo this brand new trial for lymphoma.
Throughout their 10-week campaign, selected candidates form teams and fundraise in honor of two local children who are blood cancer survivors. The top fundraising candidates in all local markets are honored as Man or Woman of the Year in their community. Local campaigns begin in March and the two national winners are announced in July.
