A chainsaw-wielding man surrendered after an hours-long standoff with Los Angeles police Tuesday afternoon in Mission Hills, according to authorities. The Los Angeles Police Department responded at about 3:20 p.m. to San Fernando Mission and Sepulveda boulevards after a report of an assault with a deadly weapon, according to Officer Tony Im. The suspect was described as a Latino man in his 40s wearing a brown hat, blue pants and a blue jacket, Im said.
captured footage of the standoff outside a strip mall parking lot, in which the man was seen standing in the bed of a truck with a knife in one hand and a lighter in the other. Authorities approached the truck with a SWAT vehicle, blocking his exit. Officials also evacuated people from nearby businesses during the standoff.
