Cape Town has become the center of the COVID-19 outbreak in South Africa and one of Africa's hot spots.

People exercise along the promenade at sunrise in Sea Point, Cape Town, South Africa, Monday. May 18, 2020 as the country marked day 53 of a government lockdown in a bid to prevent the spread of coronavirus. The Western Cape province which includes the city of Cape Town, has emerged as the country's coronavirus hotspot, accounting for more than half of the nation's confirmed cases.

Gauteng province containing Johannesburg, South Africa's largest city, and the capital, Pretoria, had been expected to be the country's epicenter with its population density and poverty levels, but Cape Town defied predictions with high levels of community transmission. Cape Town is expected to reach its peak of cases around the end of June, while the rest of South Africa is expected to peak in August or September.

While South Africa reportedly has adequate hospital beds it remains short of intensive care facilities. It has about 3,300 intensive care beds but predictions suggest more than 20,000 could be needed. “The lessons we are learning now, we are sharing with the rest of the country,” said Dr. Nomafrench Mbombo, Western Cape's top health officer.

Winde, in self-isolation after coming in contact with a TV cameraman who later died of COVID-19, wants restrictions relaxed to boost economic activity.

South Africa BCG booster trials seek low-cost weapon against COVID-19The idea of testing the BCG vaccine in Africa against COVID-19 was bound to cause controversy, yet officials say efforts underway could, if successful, give the continent a cheap and easily deployable weapon against the virus. BCG is mandatory in India and we all had when we were infants. That's one of the reason mortality rate is relatively low from COVID-19 in India and in countries where BCG vaccination is mandatory. Good luck South Africa! More a case of hit and hope, rather than done with any scientific evidence. Maybe it will lead SA to landing on the right responsiveness to Covid-19. Let's pray!

South Koreans return to school amid virus outbreakSouth Korean students are returning to schools as their country prepares for a new normal amid the pandemic. Students in some schools near Seoul were quickly asked to leave and return home after their classmates were found to have contracted the virus. Media’s really pushing for this “new normal” narrative 🙄 I became a victim for more than 50,000 Americans in Okinawa, Japan for a rape incident in 1995 by US army. I and my mom deserve the best and an apology and appreciation and best treat. I don't deserve ignorance, abuse, scars and damages on my body. Plz stop abuse. It's going on. States With Open Restaurants Are (Predictably) Becoming Tourism Hot SpotsVarying policies in neighboring states are sending customers across the border for sit-down meals and drinks. I’m not sure crossing a state line to eat at a diner qualifies as “tourism.” Is there a single noteworthy restaurant in the country that’s reopened?
