Democrats in both houses of the California State Legislature have passed a bill that would allow the state to set wages for half a million fast food workers in the state, sending the legislation to Gov. Gavin Newsom for signature., creates a ten-member politburo, known as the Fast Food Council, which would serve for ten years, until renewed by the legislature.

A previous version of the bill passed by the state Assembly in January also allowed the council to oversee workplace conditions such as scheduling and made restaurant chains joint employers of their franchise’s employers, potentially opening them to liability for labor violations.

I agree with others..welcome to the world of kiosks and robot workers. Restaurants will also just start closing locations. I find it hard to believe $22 an hour and you can’t even read the screen and get my order right. I don’t mind eating at home.

I think this is bullshit from a person who worked fast food years ago at like $5.50 an hour. Keep giving these people up to $22 an hour and I have Masters degree to get up to that point. Everybody else is not getting COLA this will increase prices across the board.

I mean what could go wrong.

Gov Newsom called DeSantis 'a bully.' San Francisco and LA are loaded with homeless people and all he has time for is measuring the weight of hamburger meat. How's that for a bully?

This is about as Communist as you can get.

Just move

Communism

I sure hope he signs it. The country needs to see the impact.

Can’t quite put my finger on the type of government this reminds me of..🤔🤔

Say bye bye.

So Dems want to control what they serve, who they hire, tax the property, control the wages, the signage, share the profits... Sounds like the mafia...

So the restaurants shut down and go out of state because they can’t afford to operate.I’m starting to think this is their goal.

When the tech is ready robots will take over no matter what the wage is. Even at $5 an hour, a human can’t compete with a robot that works 24hrs a day and doesn’t take lunch breaks or vacations or maternity leave all for the price of 1-2 years wages for 1 employee. Simple math

Why do they need a gov board for this. Just set minimum wage and increase by CPI annually. Avoid unnecessary salaries fir 10 year Board members

Well don’t complain people when that cheeseburger ends up being $20. Fast food work is an entry level job if you want to make more work your way up, learn a trade or go to school.

Layoffs, hiring freezes, and automation coming

This is 100% Socialism, where the State dictates wages of private enterprise. Mom and Pop establishments are all but doomed.

How fucked up can mexicaly get!

I dont know people get mad at this stuff - im glad - it will collapse CA even faster

Is this democracy? Big brother setting your labor cost? Less employees more kiosk coming soon. The value meal isn’t going to be much of a value. This hurts those on a tight budget.

Fast food is already expensive enough. Now even they won’t be able to afford the own cheap food they make

A career path for illegals. Good grief.

Another reason to leave CA.

Robots coming

Can you say ordering kiosk, burger flipping machines and drive through window only?

Thats un constitutional

At some point, people are going to stop the bleeding and throw these politicians out of their towns and states. Businesses will not lose money while politicians feast. It’s really not that difficult to understand.

… socialism … it’s coming hard and picking up steam.

Government overreach

So much for teenagers being able to get a job to earn some spending money after school, they can kiss those jobs goodbye if this passes

California is a communist state

California State Senate passes fast food worker rights billThe California State Senate passed Assembly Bill 257, aimed at regulating the fast food industry. More Gov overreach ! When I worked at a burger joint, we had all the rights we needed, nothing more! If my manager kissed me (yes, it happened, sorry millennials) I kissed him back. It made things smoother for both of us! Dumb, it’s a point to protect the employees, but when it comes to wages, fast food jobs weren’t supposed to be full on careers. This bill is going to close a lot of restaurants and then that equals to fewer jobs. Unions don’t care about the people they care about themselves
