Half of all young people say they would leave Brazil if they could

countries has been rising for years, but took off especially in 2017, growing by 24% from the previous year. Nearly 30% of all Brazilians living incountries have a university education. In the past two years, applications by Brazilian skilled workers for permanent visas in the United States, the main destination for those leaving Brazil, rose by 30% to the highest level in at least ten years.

“Being in a country that has daily attacks on science is very discouraging,” says Ana Carneiro, a professor who studies the Brazilian diaspora at, a university in the state of São Paulo. But it is not new. During the dictatorship of 1964-85, for which Mr Bolsonaro is nostalgic, academics were among the thousands exiled. The military government had a slogan: “Brazil: love it or leave it.”

It is not long ago that Brazil offered young researchers fairer prospects. Between 2003 and 2016 successive governments led by the Workers’ Party, under Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and Dilma Rousseff, set up 18 new universities . In 2015 Brazil outpaced countries like Russia and Mexico in its spending on science, technology and innovation.

Scientists are now a burden. Science has reached its petty limits. What's keeping it on a pedestal is the 'respectability' tag attached to the discipline. It's time for capable persons to activate their 6th sense to exceed crass materialism to get to the fundamentals of existence

Where are they going?

And come here. Same in Nigeria. Go for it. That would really screw the racists.

I'm afraid leaving your country isn't a good solution. Someone's gotta do something about things in harmless ways though.

Where would they go?

Sad. But real. There is a lot of hopelessness with the present.

pedroandradetv What can keep them at home...? A nice warm fire in the Amazon rain forest...?

EduardoBotelh19 Me too. I'm waiting for some country to accept brazilians as refugees

On the contrary, must stay in your country for fighting by improving its quality of life,in others countries will consider you and will feel like foreign, better stay home

In Poland was the same. There was a saying: 'The last one switch off the light'. And guess what, with first opportunity(opening european job markets for Poland),people did just that. They bought Ryanair tickets and... and now when I visit my country there is no one to meet with 🤔

So do guys everyone go to the bar and pick up strippers

Most young people from smaller cities wouldn’t leave their state or even their cities. I don’t know who create these researches but they have no clue about what Brazil is outside of their bubble

If I had a single opportunity I would leave Brazil without thinking twice

With a president like that, who would blame them.

good
