Lula da Silva had a 50 to 36 lead in some polls, and he still snagged an over 5 point lead here. I wouldn't be surprised if an instant runoff instead of the Oct 30 one would have granted Lula an even larger win. He'd still be Brazil's next president either way of course.
I’m not a supporter of Lula but Bolsonaro is an absolute disaster on way too many different levels. He’s a real threat to Brazil’s democracy and institutions.

How do they get their some 200 million votes counted and publicized in just 4 hours, but states in our country take weeks at times? There is a reason. And it’s an intentional one.
With 97% of the votes tallied, da Silva had 47.9% support and Bolsonaro 43.6%. Since neither candidate received more than 50% of the valid votes, a second round vote between them will be scheduled for Oct. 30.
What’s with the bias? Calling Lula a leftist, but not calling Bolsonaro whatever you call the polar opposite? Many say fascist. How about this, either leave that preceding descriptive off altogether, or apply it fairly and evenly to both with accuracy.
