David Calhoun, previously the board’s lead director, will replace Muilenburg as chairman.

The change will let Muilenburg focus full time on running the company as it works to return the 737 MAX safely to service, Boeing said.

:"The board has full confidence in Dennis as CEO and believes this division of labor will enable maximum focus on running the business with the board playing an active oversight role,” Calhoun said in a statement.: Boeing has been embroiled in controversy since two deadly crashes involving its 737 MAX jet resulted in the loss of 346 lives over the last year.
