This means no more candy, soda and salty snacks available for impulsive shoppers waiting in line to pay at the register in stores over 2,500 square feet in size. The ban is believed to be the first of its kind in the nation.

The progressive university town this time has passed an ordinance requiring stores over 2,500 square feet in size to sell more nutritious food and beverage options in their checkout areas.

That means no more candy, soda and salty snacks available for impulsive shoppers waiting in line to pay at the register. The ban is believed to be the first of its kind in the nation. “This ordinance is another effort to create a healthy food environment that would support families by providing them the ability to avoid high-calorie, low-nutrient food and beverages when they do their grocery and other shopping,” said a city report on the ordinance passed this week by the city council. “Individuals and families who want to purchase sugary drinks, candy, chips, and other sweet and salty snacks will be able to find them in their respective aisles in the center of stores.

Because there aren't more important things going on.

Cal Berkeley also admitted students who did not meet standards because their parents were rich, so all is not well with Berkeley. When the government starts dictating what we can/can’t eat, communism begins. Election2020

Unbelievable

One huge problem w/ the negative comments on this article. The stores aren’t completely banning unhealthy foods, just within a specific area of the store. People’s choices aren’t being taken away so the fascism & the “taking away my rights” arguments are completely invalid.

Whatever happened to people being adults and not relying on the government to make decisions for them?

This is fascism.

Place is a disaster

The nanny state is alive

If California could ban itself that’d be great

I get it but bigger fish to fry. Wait don’t deep fry that fish...
