Retired Pastor Rick Jordan, who served at Concord Church for many years, at his home alongside a "legacy wall" that includes photos of his sons Steven Arnell and H. Rick.A man of God, Pastor Rick Jordan made it his life’s work to bring justice and healing to those around him. He stood on the front lines of civil rights struggles as a teenager in Alabama. Then, for half a century, he helped bring peace to heated moments of conflict in Dallas.
“We didn’t marry but my mama always told me, ‘You always take care of that baby,’ and I did that,” Pastor Jordan said. “He was in my life all of his life.”Steven attended Kimball High School, where he’s remembered as a good student who excelled at soccer. He went on to graduate with a business degree from Prairie View A&M University — along with the recognition from professors and peers that he was a born salesman.
“My brother’s ultimate success was his independence,” H. Rick said. “He was big on ‘I want to stand on my own feet. I want to be my own man.’” Peel laughed about the many times he and Steven, both of them Concord members, attended other churches and critiqued the pastors there. “Because Pastor Bailey was his uncle, we thought we had a lot of insight about what preachers should be.”
Then Pastor Jordan, his eyes clouded with tears and his jovial voice turned quiet, added, “He always tried to please people — always trying to please people.”
