Baltimore principal’s racist rant was an AI fake. His colleague was arrested.

The Pikesville High School athletic director was arrested after authorities said he used artificial intelligence to fabricate the principal's voice in a racist and antisemitic rant. The 42-second voice recording, purportedly of a Maryland high school principal in the midst of a racist rant, derided Black students as “ungrateful” and unable to “test their way out of a paper bag.”

The employee, Dazhon Darien, 31, the former athletic director at Pikesville High School, was taken into custody at BWI Airport Thursday as he was about to fly to Houston. During their investigation of the recording, police interviewed Eiswert, who told them he believed Darien had fabricated the recording, according to a police charging document. He also told an investigators that he had not wanted to renew Darien’s contract because of “frequent work performance challenges.”Tracing the genesis of the recording, investigators determined that it had been sent by email to three school employees, including Darien, the day before it ended up on Instagram.
