Updated: Jun. 29, 2022, 1:14 p.m. |Auburn City Councilman Jay Hovey has requested a second hearing before an Alabama Republican Party committee, asking it to reverse its decision that resulted in a tie in his state Senate race against Sen. Tom Whatley of Auburn.Hovey defeated Whatley by a single vote in the May 24 primary, according to vote totals certified in Lee, Russell, and Tallapoosa counties on May 31.
“The party decided otherwise and in doing so really belabored the point that the system failed this voter and the system was flawed and made mistakes. And we were pleased that ALEA came to their own defense, frankly, and argued otherwise.” As of Tuesday, Republican Party Chair John Wahl said the party intended to settle the race by a coin flip. Wahl said he was trying to set up a time and place suitable for both candidates.“We stand by the decision of the Alabama Republican Party. Let’s flip the coin,” Blankenship said.
The statement said Patsy Kenney of Dadeville went with her husband to the driver’s license office in Opelika on April 28 and that both intended to register to vote as well as receive their Alabama driver’s licenses. They had moved back to Alabama from Georgia. “As far as anyone can tell, Mrs. Kenney’s voter registration application was completed and submitted on April 28, 2022,” the statement said. “By law ALEA has 10 days to forward voter registration information to the county registrar.”
Never thought the GOP would want to allow a vote from an unregistered voter
Hey ALGOP, if Tom “wins” I’ll be voting D in November. I’m already voting D against Memaw & Little Miss Shelby in a skirt(if I may borrow a line from the great one mattmurphyshow). Hell, it may be just as quick to pull the straight D lever if y’all can’t fix this.
Boy the ALGOP sure does have short term memory when it comes to crying about voter fraud
The GOP will rig it one way or another! Hypocrisy!!
