Astros insider: Ryan Pressly returns from paternity leave, continues perfection

A three-day All-Star break stretched to seven after Pressly’s wife, Kat, gave birth to the couple’s second child on Wednesday.

Pressly credited Kat with “holding it down” and allowing him a little sleep during Hunter’s first few days at home. He reported back to work on Sunday after three days of paternity leave, the maximum allowed by Major League Baseball. Baker did not want to risk anything after Pressly’s seven-day absence and intended to allow him a day or two to re-acclimate.

The Astros built a six-run lead after two innings and Baker’s plan seemed perfect. Seattle scored five times across the seventh and eighth to foil it. Pressly removed his sweatshirt during the top of the ninth and started to warm. “Being out for that long, you start getting anxious around the eighth or ninth inning just because you want to move around and get out there,” Pressly said. “But it’s good to get out there with the guys and have some fun. It’s always fun to go out there and sweep somebody.”
