Justin Verlander is now almost 21 months removed from Tommy John surgery and has unlocked...

SEATTLE, WASHINGTON - JULY 23: Martin Maldonado #15 of the Houston Astros high-fives Bryan Abreu #52 after the game against the Seattle Mariners at T-Mobile Park on July 23, 2022 in Seattle, Washington. The Houston Astros won 3-1. SEATTLE — Justin Verlander’s velocity spike stemmed from curiosity, the kind that keeps him constantly ahead of many counterparts and allows him to thrive at an advanced age.

Saturday erased any thought this was a one-start surprise. Verlander averaged 96.3 mph on the 59 fastballs he threw in seven innings of. To strand the bases loaded in the seventh, Verlander fired 11 fastballs harder than 98 mph. He touched 99 mph four times, evoking memories of his time as a can’t-miss prospect in the early 2000s.

“The last couple years, did a lot of mobility stuff and kind of have been working very hard to reverse some of the compensations that have happened over years and years of pitching. I think having that and continually working on it in-season and being able to kind of supplement that with a little bit of mechanical tweaks that are just kind of happening.”

How we’re examining Cleveland Mayor Justin Bibb’s proposal to spend taxes transporting women for abortions: Letter from the EditorIt’s a story that checks several boxes for big news. It’s about abortion, one of the controversial topics of the year. It’s a radical proposal from Cleveland’s still-new mayor, someone who campaigned on breaking with the status quo to solve problems. And it’s a stretch of how tax dollars are used. We wouldn't be here if republicans didn't mess with a settled law. 🖕 Quit paying your taxes if it goes for bullshit like this. I love how 6x a year Chris Quinn comes out from hiding to explain to us what his mission is, and then does precisely the opposite. I personally wish a world of sadness upon Mr Quinn and his associates.
