A little over two months ago about 4,000 people were dying every day from Covid-19 in India. Yet, on a recent Friday, a rooftop bar in New Delhi was once again packed with crowds of young adults mingling without masks.
Among the hundreds at the Summer House Cafe, a popular nightclub in India’s capital city, was Srishtii Guptaa, a 29-year-old graduate student who said she lost several family members to Covid-19 in April and May. “Life goes on,” said Ms. Guptaa, who resumed her busy social life as soon as lockdown restrictions were lifted. “Nothing stops me from partying.”. In New Delhi and other cities across the country, shoppers are once again crowding stores, diners are squeezing into restaurants, and bars are hosting crowds of revelers. Many have already abandoned safety precautions such as social distancing and wearing a mask.
Coronavirus infections have steadily fallen—despite a sluggish vaccination rollout—after hitting a peak of more than 400,000 cases a day in early May. For weeks, daily confirmed cases have plateaued around 40,000. Only about 7% of the country’s more than 1.3 billion people have received both shots of a Covid-19 vaccine.
lindsaywise I do not like this at all.
Well, the Indian government, unlike the Canadian government for instance, isn’t providing any help at all to the public, don’t let the media fool you into believing anything otherwise. People have got to look out for themselves thus abandon safety precautions and make ends meet.
Ummm
These things happen
Can't fix stupid
Then die, suckeeeeerrrrrr...
Wait. Are you sure that girl hasn’t yet migrated to Florida?
There are fools in every corner of the world
keithbaldrey Famous last words. Long haul tends to limit partying. Delta variant & LH unfortunately target the young.
Irresponsible people match their irresponsible govn't. It won't be long before another wave of the pandemic hits India, where the Delta variant came from. The world can't cope with more variants. When hedonism prevails, people will not be able to defeat the virus.
keithbaldrey Insanity.
🤘
I thought this was a headline from The Onion, not the WSJ.
By end of October 21, India would have vaccinated fully 20% of its adult population. Also, restrictions still remain, but the isolation is getting to people - WFH will be a dud in a few months
He's graduate but stupid!
She must go to some 'killer' parties.
It's unfortunate to see 'partying' priority over public health for whoever this young girl is. Unless public self discipline & civic responsibility is seen, India might see the receding 2nd wave reverse upwards, which it cant afford economically or socially. God bless India
Yeah spring break parties here in Miami were equally worthy of innane whTBoutary
COVID. KIND. OF. LIKE. FAMINE. AND. WAR. AS. IT. HELPS. CONTROL. THE. EARTH. POPULATION.
...nothing will stop you, but Covid just might!🤷🏾♀️
This is news? A girl partying, woohoo. Also masks are optional as they should be cuz they don’t work
It's like Sweden, but with a ridiculously higher population density
omg
You are responsible for yourself!
