The Aggies trailed 14-7 late in the third quarter following a 9-yard Appalachian State touchdown pass from Chase Brice to Henry Pearson when the Mountaineers puzzlingly kicked to dynamic A&M returner Devon Achane. The former Fort Bend Marshall star returned the kick 95 yards for a game-tying touchdown, and the Aggies sighed in relief - briefly.
The Mountaineers rolled into Kyle Field following a 63-61 home loss to North Carolina, after scoring 40 points in the fourth quarter against the Tar Heels. The smacked Aggies now turn their attention to the Hurricanes, who defeated Southern Mississippi 30-7 on Saturday in Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Fla. Miami outscored Southern Miss 20-0 in the second half.
