Associated Press managing editor Brian Carovillano on Sunday stood by the firing Emily Wilder over pro-Palestinian tweets after more than 100 staffers released an open letter condemning the move., Carovillano told host Brian Stelter that Wilder, a 22-year-old news associate, was dismissed because"she had a series of social media posts that showed a clear bias toward one side and against another in one of the most divisive and difficult stories that we cover anywhere in the world.
"It was a unanimous decision among some senior managers at the AP," he continued."It's really important that we maintain our credibility on these stories, and journalist safety is at stake and the AP's credibility is at stake and our credibility is under constant attack from the right and the left, from foreign governments and sometimes even from the U.S. government."
