Andor's Tony Gilroy told his crew to put away their love of StarWars: 'They’ll put on a Star Wars [costume], and all of a sudden, this great actor...starts acting differently. And you go, 'Wait, no...You’re here because we want you to be real''

fans, but thanks to you, I no longer hold that opinion., and I think it’s because you’re not coming from a place of nostalgia. So do you still believe that not being a lifelong fan is your “superpower”? because that was my point of entry. It wasn’t that I didn’t like it. It just wasn’t on my radar. I wasn’t in awe of it. So when I came in here to futz around and repair [], I knew I’d do my thing. I was going to bring my thing here. And it worked.

: Tony Gilroy and Diego Luna on the set of Lucasfilm’s ANDOR, exclusively on Disney+. ©2022 Lucasfilm Ltd. & TM. All Rights Reserved.I just referenced your conversation with writer Brian Koppelman in 2017, and at the time, it sounded like you didn’t expect to return toThey tried to do a couple different versions of this show along the way. I wasn’t really interested, but the people that were trying it were feeling a little bit trapped in what we just discussed, this reverence for.

So they went back and pulled this old memo, and they were like, “We want to do this now.” They wanted to be that ambitious on this scale, and the timing was right for me. I had a bunch of other things fall apart. I was getting a little tired of things falling apart, and the one thing that they definitely have is an audience. So it wasn’t an overnight thing that you tiptoe into. It takes a long time. Everybody tiptoes forward, but that’s how it came to be.

And so the first decision you have to make is who’s going to be your production designer. Even in writing, my first call is to the production designer, because everything we do has to be designed. So we put a marker down. It was kind of a test for Disney: “How serious are you?” We didn’t want to go with any of the traditionalpeople. We wanted [production designer] Luke Hull, who was like 12 years old and had just donein every way. So we brought him over.

Lol What is this shit?

George Lucas understood what Star Wars was about. Funny creatures. Jar Jar Binks. Cool sword fights. Spaceships fighting. Etc.

I can't tell how you refreshing it is to see actual sets instead of that 360 stage Mando uses. It's pretty fun to see star wars without having to force a prequel character tie in, or a Skywalker connection or something Vader said 20 years ago or something.

Solid show … no useless fan-service, maintains its own identity yet remains within the Star Wars domain

The sequel trilogy already beyond demonstrated that was a terrible strategy and shouldn't be repeated. Rogue One was a good film in it's own right. But to try and riff on a bleak, bland, dull, dystopian version of a rich, vibrant Sci Fi Fantasy universe to be 'real' is trash

Andor is the best Star Wars show yet.

Well that's just another reason it doesn't feel or look like SW at all. It doesn't fit in the universe Lucas created. It could have been a fine sci-fi show if it explored some interesting thoughts or new ideas, especially with the budget and talent behind it.

Your in the minority

Dreadful show so far. Might be the worst one yet.

Hey, Star Wars: The Jedi Actually Kind of Suck“Andor,” the latest Star Wars spinoff, is a refreshing change of pace for one big reason: None of those annoying, played-out, crappy Jedi. The person who wrote this artcle sucks. Do I need to start blocking The Daily Beast? I feel like it’s nothing but I’m so cool because I don’t like these things clickbait.
