Conspiracy theories need just the right ingredients to take off within a population. Here's how one popular COVID-19 conspiracy theory came to be and what made it become so well spread. 👇

detailing how something called"quantum dots" could be delivered to the skin to record vaccinations.

"It is really difficult to determine who has received what vaccines in the developing world because there is not good record keeping," McHugh said."So the idea is, can we actually have something that could inform a health care worker what vaccines have been administered and therefore which ones are still needed?"

"So you have the anti-vaxxer movement targeting Bill Gates as well as the anti-tech movement," Brill said. It's unclear who operated the @5gcoronavirus19 account, which has since been taken down. But it managed to create such momentum that other platforms picked it up from there. Downing said someone doesn't need to have a huge following to do that; they just need to know how the algorithm works.

These morons are running nuts in Hawai'i. Trying to correct this loony conspiracy here is like trying to pull teeth from a lion.

Never let a crisis go to waste' -- Saul Alinsky

I often wonder if people feed into these because the most basic answers are too scary. It's too scary to think that COVID is something beyond our control, that the outbreak is something we're simply not equipped to deal with. Far easier to believe it's all being controlled.

Here's another example of how right-wing conspiracy theories can be so harmful . . .

So Flint, Michigan's lead filled water has been the default water for the United States for 40 years. That's my takeaway here. That's my conspiracy on how stupidity spreads faster than Covid-19.

Truly, we don’t need the fear of 5G, but we do need remain skeptical of the involvement of Huawei in building 5G network. They are totally different ideas. The fear of Huawei is caused by the threats of CCP on the rest of the world. CCP Huawei

Yawn. Fart. Please pass the Goya black beans...

I find some conspiracy theories to be fascinating. With rational logic, it doesn't take long to debunk. In the end, it boils down to people (Americans) watch too much tv/movies

Here a conspiracy theory: Cotton and surgical masks protect people from contagious virus droplets. Big conspiracy theory. And has gained lots of traction.

I can teach you how to earn $5,000 after 48hrs, Ask me how and write me on Whatsapp +447451289257, if you are interested.

not all conspiracies seem crazy. i mean some of them are observations from those who see beyond the veil. Obviously not all prove to be plausible but some of them aren’t surprising. As for me I feel like when the whole Snowden thing happened it opened my eyes to them more.

All the conspiracy people at the end of this article reading that the Bill and Melinda Gates foundation is a donor to NPR

'There's a sucker born every minute.' - P.T. Barnum

And this is exactly why I wrote Become Your Own Fact-Checker. ConspiracyTheory Covid coronavirus 5G 5GCoronavirusTheory

Straight out of the playbook. Counter truth by claiming it’s a conspiracy theory. Get out in front only it. Nice one NPR.

sad example of biased 'reporting'

this whole article is about how great Bill Gates is and how questioning him is dumb. Also, here’s that’s at the end of the article:

Lol....You just keep trying don’t you? You know what you haven’t run in a while? An expose on deep fake videos...You better get that story ready now that Ghislane has been arrested...I’ll be looking for it soon.

How does your mind deceive you? ' Free yourself' your mind is obsessed with what other minds are thinking (mind reading). Your mind is horribly competitive and insecure, comparing you to the neighbors, co-workers, friends..

Here is one that isn't real: We are animals who act just like all social animals. We create elaborate schemes so we can have something to do. Everybody wants to fvck & Everybody wants to be remembered after their death. How biologically primitive is that.

So in other words, it's all based on paranoia.

TB kills 1.5M every year and nobody ever wore masks but now there's antisocial distancing and wear masks or you get fined or locked up 😂

Now do the Russia conspiracy theory.

Damage control

How about interviewing Michael Levitt? He's at minute 11ish and then later.

Question: is a 'conspiracy theory' a common cultural thing outside of the US? Because they're huge here...

Is it safe to visit the dentist during the pandemic?Dentists can’t eliminate all risk, but they are taking steps to minimize the chances of spreading the coronavirus. I went last week... with no issues. I have already been to the dentist and had my teeth cleaned. They did take my temperature and I wore a mask from my entry into the building all the way into the room and ask them when I can take my mask off. I followed all the procedures as they instructed me. I’ve had my teeth cleaned and a filling with no problems.
