Analysis: The Senate minority leader, known for blocking Democratic bills, voted to advance a major infrastructure deal. Here's what top allies believe is driving his decision.

this week, GOP voters have so far not been fired up about the issue. A Republican senator said Trump's missives have had"almost zero impact" on the negotiation or the vote count.

While some Republican senators are privately concerned that conservative media have portrayed the infrastructure deal poorly, it's still a far cry from 2009, when Republicans weighing whether to work with Democrats on a health care bill were confronted with enraged constituents at town halls and an army of conservative commentators warning that it would ruin the country.

The party faces headwinds next year from moderate voters who were repelled by Trump and may be difficult to attract as long as he and his allies remain the faces of the party. "You have to assume he's doing what's best for his 2022ers and work backwards from there," said progressive strategist Adam Jentleson, a longtime McConnell critic."In the past, that has always been obstruction. Now, maybe he needs a dash of cooperation to show voters and potential recruits like Sununu that Republicans aren't totally crazy.

He always have an agenda when he goes along with the Democrats.. DEMOCRATS THINK. Mitch McConnell don't like the Democrats.. Why is he going along with it? 🤔🤔

He voted to advance the bill they gutted to the core. It’s a victory lap.

JoeBiden's infrastructure is national. It has nothing to do with Rep or Dem, which are two faces of the same coin, American democracy. This shows to what extent WhiteHouse2021 agenda is accepted even by tough political rivals who see it necessary. Thus, Biden's victory is real.

No, he didn't. He couldn't stop ten Republicans for voting for it. He had nothing to do with it.

Other than it’s needed , there is better places in Iraq 🇮🇶 functioning much better than in the not so great usa 🇺🇸, that’s not a joke btw

Maybe he was on board because the infrastructure bill ACTUALLY had something to do with infrastructure

I know enough about McConnell to know that if he is part of the deal, or endorses it or votes for it then it cant be good for anyone, especially civilian Americans. He could give Dems/Progs everything they ask and Id still know it has some steel cables attached.

There's pork in the bill for Mitch.

I think all of this is probably true. We will see how he actually votes in the end. I will be surprised regardless .... that said I think their may be an added incentive for him. I think there is part of him that would enjoy sticking it to Donald.

It is that or filibuster

How many millions does Kentucky get ?

This bill is an attempt to privatize utilities, paid for by American workers who were forced onto unemployment during the lock downs. This must be stopped.

McConnell cites experience with polio in ad pushing Kentuckians to get vaccinatedMcConnell is airing an ad across 100 radio stations in Kentucky urging people to get vaccinated, recalling how as a young boy he 'faced a different disease. I contracted polio,' and 'back then, it took decades for us to develop a vaccine.' I think its time for Republicans to more thoughtfully consider who they vote for. If their current official doesn't understand modern society and where it's headed, they shouldn't be in their position. Covid19 sees humans as food. Reject noise. Get vaxxed. 😂😂😂😂 hard pass
