The prototype clearly displays these new attributes, with a shorter bonnet in relation to the size of the cabin, although its low height over the front wheels might suggest the GT will retain a dry-sumped variant of AMG’s 4-litre V8. This is in contrast to the new SL Roadster, which maintains the wet-sump M177.
The question of how far AMG will take the next GT remains more of a mystery, as the top-spec GT will likely include the E Performance hybrid system that will increase power, but also weight. Therefore, any notion of a-replacing model that will have an increased focus on direct handling and light weight will likely have to take a different path, leaving the door open to all sorts of interesting derivatives.
Mercedes-AMG has not confirmed when the GT will be revealed, but with the SL’s launch phase now complete, and the two likely sharing much of their underlying elements, it could be ready to go sooner than we may think. Watch this space.
You forgot an apostrophe after SL in the third paragraph.
And naturally it will keep the V8?
