A curfew was in place in downtown Akron from 9 p.m. Monday to 6 a.m. today as the city deals with reaction to the police shooting of Jayland Walker.

A group of protesters gathered in front of the Akron Police Department at about 8:30 p.m. but dispersed when afor downtown by Mayor Dan Horrigan took effect, according to WKYC Channel 3. About 50 police officers dressed in riot gear exited and stood in front of the station when the curfew went into effect, but went back inside after just a few minutes, according to WKYC.

Horrigan said in a Monday news release announcing the curfew that demonstrations that remained peaceful during most of Sunday turned “violent and destructive” later in the evening, with multiple businesses along Akron’s Main Street corridor having windows broken. Multiple news outlets reported that Akron police deployed tear gas to disperse the crowd.

“We cannot and will not tolerate the destruction of property or violence,” Horrigan said in the statement.Note to readers: if you purchase something through one of our affiliate links we may earn a commission.

Akron police release bodycam video of Jayland Walker shootingPolice have released footage of the shooting death of a 25-year-old man killed by Akron police following a car and foot chase early Monday. Police said officers believed he had fired a shot from his vehicle. From WKSU: WKSU There is too little information on this incident currently that needs to be investigated. There are not enough details, & it's not looking good for MNPD from the initial reports. ReleaseTheData WKSU Looks like a good shoot. I fully expect Antifa/BLM to riot and cause untold damage. Because it is a standard leftist practice now. WKSU The classic, 'we heard a shot' excuse. Wow, that is pathetic. That is not justification for the rule of engagement on a subject I've ever seen. There's a new lawsuit against the police. That's an execution.

Akron police release bodycam footage after shooting death of Jayland WalkerPolice released video the mayor called “heartbreaking” of the pursuit and shooting of 25-year-old Jayland Walker. Walker sustained more than 60 wounds. They Shot Him in the Back More Than 90 Times! ☝🏿🤦🏿‍♂️🧐🤦🏿‍♂️🇺🇸 The 'heartbreaking' part was that he brought it in himself. Why don't you grow a pair, Chief, and give the officers a medal instead of criticism for handling a tough situation and being shot at? Your bowing before BLM is so 2020, and embarrassing to your whole city.

Akron Police Release Video of Shooting of Jayland WalkerAkron, Ohio, police released body-camera videos recorded as officers shot 25-year-old Jayland Walker to death, as hundreds of people took to the streets of Akron to protest Sunday Walker’s actions led to his death. Clearly a violent criminal who made the wrong choices, but that doesn’t undermine the need for accountability over this disgusting use of force. 1. Fleeing from police in vehicle. 2. Wearing ski mask in July. 3. Furtive movements in vehicle. 4. Handgun in vehicle. = good shoot. I don’t care how many rounds were fired. It was because he was a criminal, not due to the color of his skin. You mean after he fired at the cops and fled in his ski mask The fact that these parents support their children in these circumstances says it all.
