Thousands of Afghans run alongside and hold onto a U.S. military jet taking off from the tarmac at Kabul's International Airport. At least seven people were killed in the incident, according to U.S. officials.

Afghans crowd at the tarmac of the Kabul airport on August 16, 2021, to flee the country as the Taliban were in control of Afghanistan after President Ashraf Ghani fled the country and conceded the insurgents had won the 20-year war.One video shared by journalist Sultan Faizy shows hundreds of people scrambling over the top of one another in an attempt to climb the air bridge.

"Desperate situation unfolding at Kabul airport this morning," journalist Ahmer Khan tweeted."Thousands of Afghans are at Kabul airport. They are running after moving aircrafts," he later added. Another shows hundreds of Afghans running alongside the body of a U.S. aircraft as it taxis along the runway and prepares to take flight. A handful of men appear to crouch under the wing while appearing to hold on to the side of the aircraft.

"Desperate Afghans are hanging on the plane tires and falling from the sky near the Kabul airport," Middle East Eye reporter Ragıp Soylu tweeted.
