Women's rights advocates have criticized the United States' plan to withdraw troops from Afghanistan without securing assurances from the Taliban about protections for women.

Rahmani toldthe withdrawal of U.S. troops from Afghanistan was a"natural step" in the evolution of the two countries' partnership.

Roya Rahmani, the Afghanistan ambassador to the U.S., said she is concerned violence may"continue or even possibly escalate" as U.S. troops withdraw from Afghanistan.

In February, the Afghanistan Study Group presented a report that noted the ongoing nature of the Taliban-Afghan government negotiations, and recommended a slow and"conditions-based" approach to the U.S. troop withdrawal. More than 150 families were living in tents as internally displaced people who fled their homes because of the increasing violence and threats from the Taliban.
