Advocates Say Tobacco Companies Will Exploit Mitch McConnell’s Anti-Smoking Bill

by school-aged children, which McConnell called a “public health epidemic.” The bill requires all states to pass their own legislation raising the purchasing age of tobacco and vape products to 21, or else they will not receive federal grants for prevention and treatment of substance abuse.

This was a blow to anti-smoking advocates, who are pushing for much more drastic changes than just raising the legal limit for purchasing. Their wish list includes banning flavored tobacco and vaping products, banning tobacco and vaping advertisements directed at youths, and banning online sales of vaping products.

Haifley called the section of McConnell’s bill that requires states pass their own laws a “favor” to the tobacco industry. He and other advocates are encouraging Congress to take up an alternative, such as a bill from Sens. Brian Schatz and Todd Young that just raises the federal limit, or a House bill from Rep. Frank Pallone that goes farther withNicholas Kamm / AFP / Getty Images

Texas' 'Save Chick-fil-A' bill part of a nationwide, anti-LGBTQ effort, advocates sayLawmakers in Texas are pushing legislation that they say is about protecting the religious beliefs of individuals and businesses. Critics allege the measure is part of a nationwide effort to use religion as a weapon to discriminate against LGBTQ people. How does Chick-Fil-A discriminate against LGBTQ people? They have a sign out front that says No Gays Allowed? Quit the hyperbole and virtue signalling. Ask a Christian for one legitimate example of how they're being persecuted or how they can't practice their religion. The only thing they can say is they can't discriminate against gay people, and they really, really want to. Christian persecution is bullshit. The media war against Christian continues unabated!

Austria's headscarf ban sensationalizes a marginal issue, Muslim groups sayA headscarf ban for young girls is a win for Austria's right-wing government. Yet many see it as a symbolic step towards greater repression of Muslims. Is that why they are being called right wing ? Telling people what they can do with their own bodies. Where have I heard that before? 🤔 Based on the rules of democracy, everyone has the freedom to wear a uniform that does not denigrate public modesty. Although I do not follow the hijabfor kids, this decision is racist and contrary to the principles of democracy.
