AC Schnitzer ACS1 UK first drive review: a new chassis set-up and design elements bring the BMW M135i some extra sparkle

The problem is the hot hatch’s eight-speed automatic gearbox: the 2.0-litre turbo four’s 302bhp output is pretty much all it can cope with, so AC Schnitzer hasn’t added any more power.

A front splitter , spoiler add-on , metal pedals and black anodised-aluminium gearshift paddles are also available. Including painting and fitting, the full conversion costs £11,584.

Nice, but ask them for a drive of their prototype M Roadster (Z3) with the transplanted BMW 4.6 (?) V8?! Saw it, sat in it, never drove it. Would be a classic beastly now...

Even if you wanted a day trip you’d need to plan within 50 miles of home in case there’s no good, working, available public chargers at your destination.
