Research demonstrates that African American students are more likely to reach their goals if they see someone like themselves achieving success. With this idea in mind, Now and Later® candy launched a new partnership with two HBCUs — Clark Atlanta University and Howard University.

She added, “It’s important to bring notable alums back, those who have been successful. [This partnership is] creating a space for us to share our journeys, our triumphs, our wins, and our challenges. Often people want to share just the highlight reel, but the journey and the truth and the growth is in the whole experience. People sometimes don’t know [how] to dream it if they don’t know it exists. It is important to be in the company of those that have achieved their dreams.

From the perspective of Clark Atlanta University President George T. French, Jr. who is elated about the partnership, “The cornerstone of a successful college experience is a student's capability to explore. In today's cluttered job market where competition is fierce, it is vital for them to learn in the classroom and be exposed to other opportunities."

Both Keshia Knight Pulliam and Terrance J are hoping for a ripple effect as a result of their engagement with students. They want to inspire HBCU students to pursue their dreams, and then hope that these students will come back to their HBCUs and motivate others to do the same.
