P-TECH, provides public school students a combined high school and two-year college degree. The six-year program is built around learning skills needed to work for actual companies in the immediate area like IBM, Microsoft and Verizon. Since 2011, graduates have taken full-time jobs with IBM that pay at least $50,000.Vocational education has been retooled to focus on 21st-century job skills and it's getting results for low-income and minority students.
Since then, the proportion of Kalamazoo graduates who have gone on to get their bachelor's degree has increased from 30 percent to 38 percent.After the introduction of its scholarship program, Kalamazoo schools saw a 25 percent increase in enrollment, after a long period of decline. This boosted state per-student funding, which was used to improve school facilities.

We just celebrated the 50th anniversary of the moon landing. It is seldom pointed out that the U.S. was in a position to do that because of the thousands of engineers that got their degrees under the WWII GI Bill.
