In this scene the French sing"La Marseillaise" and drown out the Nazis' singing.
What makes it so powerful is that it was filmed in the early 1940s and many of the people in that scene were actual French refugees who had fled Nazi occupation. It was forbidden to sing"La Marseillaise" in Vichy, France. To stand and sing it then was genuinely powerful. A lot of those tears were real.
