1.5-million-square-foot data center campus planned for San Antonio

Stream Data Centers is building 1.5 million square feet of data center space on 135 acres in west San Antonio , adding to the flurry of such facilities being built across Texas as companies expand their use of artificial intelligence. The Dallas -based company, an affiliate of Stream Realty Partners , said construction is underway on a 300,000-square-foot building at 11203 W. Military Drive that is expected to be finished in second quarter 2025.

The company sold a data center at 5200 Rogers Road in 2011 to Chevron Corp., which later sold it to Microsoft Corp., and Stream owns another data center at 9550 Westover Blvd.

The state is an attractive location for such facilities because the cost of power is relatively low compared with other parts of the country, there’s ample land, and it’s easy to get to from the East and West coasts.
