Stream Data Centers News

Stream Data Centers plans to build multiple data centers totaling 1.5 million square feet on 135 acres at Loop 1604 and West Military Drive.

Stream Data Centers is building 1.5 million square feet of data center space on 135 acres in west San Antonio , adding to the flurry of such facilities being built across Texas as companies expand their use of artificial intelligence. The Dallas -based company, an affiliate of Stream Realty Partners , said construction is underway on a 300,000-square-foot building at 11203 W. Military Drive that is expected to be finished in second quarter 2025.

Demand for data centers — power hogs sprawling across Texas — soaring along with online lifestyles The project is Stream’s third in the area. The company sold a data center at 5200 Rogers Road in 2011 to Chevron Corp., which later sold it to Microsoft Corp., and Stream owns another data center at 9550 Westover Blvd.

Why San Antonio’s far West Side is a hot spot for data centers North Texas is among the largest U.S. markets of data centers by inventory, and more space is being built in San Antonio, Austin and Houston. The state is an attractive location for such facilities because the cost of power is relatively low compared with other parts of the country, there’s ample land, and it’s easy to get to from the East and West coasts.

Is Texas breaking up with bitcoin miners? As ERCOT faces demand growth, lawmakers challenge crypto State lawmakers are concerned about the increasing demand that Texas’ notoriously stressed power grid will be taking on as more data centers and cryptocurrency mining facilities are built. The state grid operator, the Electric Reliability Council of Texas, projected in April that the state’s power load — currently about 85,000 megawatts — could swell to 152,000 megawatts by the end of the decade.
