A Lancashire-based breeder and owner of XL Bully dogs has admitted that "in the wrong hands" they can be dangerous, but has urged the government not to punish responsible owners.
But the Blackburn-based owner, who spoke to LancsLive on condition of anonymity, said that while she appreciates that the dogs are capable of causing significant injuries, given their strength, she is confident that her well-trained Bruno poses no harm. "He's a family pet and he's the softest dog ever," she said.
"When we take him out he's always on his lead and he's been so well trained so if I ever even see another dog I make him sit down and he does; but he barely even notices another dog," she said. "Your dog will need to be neutered. It will need to be muzzled when out in public and on a lead and insured. But if you comply with these actions, and that means we'll know where these dogs are, which will be a massive benefit, then yes, absolutely you will be able to keep your dog."
