Traditionally, when you think of vegan food you tend to think of quaint cafés selling expensive, tasteless salads or barrels of hummus. What you probably wouldn’t think of is everyone’s favourite cheap pint mecca; Wetherspoons pubs.
Although the burger first appeared on the pub menu back early in the year, it has been so successful over a six month period where it was trialled in 40 Wetherspoons branches, that it will now be available in all 880 pubs. If you haven’t tried The Meatless Farm’s foods before, you can also find their offerings in lots of major supermarkets across the UK in the form of plant-based mince, burgers and sausages. The burger is designed to convert carnivores because of it’s meaty feel.
“The plant-based burger is a great addition to the menu and we are confident that it will prove popular with vegetarians and vegans as well as those who eat meat.” Additionally, McDonald’s in Canada have released a PLT Burger, which stand for plant, lettuce and tomato. This burger uses a Beyond Meat patty served on a sesame seed bun with lettuce, tomato, pickles, onions, mayo-style sauce, ketchup, mustard and a slice of cheddar cheese.
