Travellers heading off on their festive breaks are facing a dash to complete their train journeys by the end of Friday because some routes are completely cut off on Christmas Eve due to the rail strike.

Jonny Wiseman, LNR customer experience director, urged customers to check their journeys before leaving, adding: “It is disappointing that our passengers’ journeys are continuing to be affected by industrial action over the Christmas period.” On Great Western Rail, the last train from London to Cardiff is at 14.48, while the last one to Bath is at 14.32.
