A vulnerable West End granny was left in tears after waking up in a bed at Glasgow's top hospital to find that around £250 in cash had allegedly been taken from her purse.
The hospital says that Ursula had not disclosed to staff that she had the cash which, if she had done, they could have kept it safe on her behalf. They discourage high value items being brought to hospital. "When we left at 7pm on Monday, the nurses took her into the toilet which was in the room. That’s the first time she didn’t have her handbag, which was over the chair."She was in the toilet for 10 minutes with the nurses who were helping her. They took her straight to bed after the bathroom rather than the chair where her handbag was.
"She had taken cash out at the weekend because she was putting money towards a specialised chair to help her get up and down when she’s sitting. She’s at the age where she likes to keep cash in her purse. "Someone has taken advantage of a vulnerable person. It’s devastating that you can’t place your trust in a hospital and their staff. You expect that your family member is safe and being well looked after, not being taken advantage of."
