Almost £7bn has been raised to immunise 300 million children at a virtual global vaccine summit hosted by the UK.

Mr Johnson said the triumph of humanity over disease was the"greatest shared endeavour of our lifetimes". Mr Gates donated $1.6bn from his foundation and Mr Johnson pledged £1.65bn over the next five years, making the UK the organisation's biggest donor.The summit comes as the world continues to struggle to get to grips with the coronavirus pandemic.

International Development Secretary Anne-Marie Trevelyan later said she believed the UK was capable of delivering a coronavirus vaccine to those who need it"at speed" when one becomes available.US President Donald Trump made a surprise appearance at the virtual global vaccine summit.
