Children with special needs plans were part of the group of children who were invited to continue schooling.
Children and young people are not vulnerable by virtue of having SEND, they are vulnerable because of the way the system treats them, Ms Fiddy said.Amanda Batten, chair of the Disabled Children's Partnership, said families feel"very much forgotten" and that most families had seen their support reduced if not withdrawn.
Philippa Stobbs, policy vice-chair at the Special Educational Consortium, said many families and young people had been hit hard by the waiving of the legal duty on schools to provide support for SEND pupils. "The difficulty for a family left to home educate their child with a lack of any provision from a school or local authority is almost unimaginable, and the impact of that is going to be deep and long-lasting."
Tough times brings tough measures
I suppose this is the government's fault and absolutely nothing to do with the councils and lefty teachers unions. You know, the ones that want to keep children off school for political purposes and not for health reasons.
Wasn't the BBC pushing the idea that schools should remain shut, alongside Rebecca Wrong Daily and the teaching unions? DefundtheBBC
This has been a big issue since long before corona virus, alcoholics get more treatment than kids with needs.
KESellgren AliFiddy Amanda_Batten halfon4harlowMP CommonsEd bbcnews THANK YOU. Utterly abandoned is exactly how we felt. Risks assessments are leaving them away from peers and teachers, lockdown without adjustments and support. I guess unintentional, but so painful
Some of the ignorant comments on here 🙄It’s not just about sending your child to school, it’s about the support that you should have, it’s so mentally & physically draining especially when you have no support & for most, ALL support was stopped, even carers.

Utterly Stupid I say!
Plainly.. They are Told.. Yiu can do this and that but not that and this? Now people complain because THEY LIMIT THEIR CHILDREN? PLAIN?
I completely understand that the pandemic meant extra support for disabled kids had to stop. It’s been difficult managing 100 days of 24/7 care without a break, but I get it. What I don’t get is why I’m still getting bills for the respite that the local authority cancelled.
Their parents who created them could not educate and care for their children? Sounds like at some point the tax base will be on the hook for it all.
They've been abandoned by the government- not schools. This has been the case for years. Gove withdrew most SEN funding.
Because? All that they are mostly told and take a paper and pen - is 6 of 9 believe another person more than in himself! Poor hey?
😥😥😥😥😡😡😡😡
Well parents need to start parenting, instead of letting the state do it.
