UN resolution pledges to plastic reduction by 2030

More than 4,700 delegates - including environment ministers, scientists and business figures - took part in the meeting.

The assembly is the world's top international environment body, and this week's pledge will set the tone for the UN's Climate Action Summit in September. However some campaigners have expressed concern that the final ministerial statement made only two references to man-made global warming.

This too long a period. damage is tremendous and we cannot wait for more. UNEnvironment drharshvardhan

Why 2030 why not 3030

In the year 2019 there’s already as much plastic in the sea as there R fish! In 11years, there won’t be any fish. What a shit initiative this is! Tax every form of plastic out of existence. The shit my kids play with-foam, slime, polystyrene it shld all B band! All made in China!

This is a decade away, it should start immediately.

BBCWorld I wonder which of the alleged developed nations want to make it 2040 or 2050. Why not next year.....oh yeah the oil lobby

The UN the great toothless tiger

BBCPolitics Does anyone take notice of the UN anymore....May certainly didn't when they did that report on poverty in the 6th richest country in the world

Yes, let's package meat in woven straw. Let's drink from cups made of chocolate. I ain't changing anything. Nature adjusts and survives. This just helps evolution.

When all the kids take a day off school for climate change get them to pick it all up, it's probably their rubbish.

BBCPolitics Why are toffs giving released prisoners tents to live yet dont do nothing for homeless

BBCPolitics Why The hell is the BBC not reporting the unrest in Paris with army and yellow vests we in Britain are still part of Europe and you are refusing to report from Paris this concern is causing animosity against BBC who we pay through or license report it you biased morons

Not good enough! Time is a luxury we no longer have.

BBCPolitics 2030 isn’t any good. Do it now

BBCPolitics Not soon enough.

Plastic is not the problem. Lazy, disrespecful people, are.

What real power does the UN have on global plastic product if any.

🤬🤬 Why not by 2020? 🤬🤬

10 cents for 10 lbs at drop off points throughout every City on Earth will have nothing but positive effects!!

In 11 years? The problem is NOW.

I've seen the future: In a land cover with plastic, the UN secretary says 'Today begin our cleaning program'. And a dirty bird answers him: 'Too late'.

Plastic reduction, national debt reduced, not the end for money then.

Except for when used by UN gravy train suppers on their business class flights and booze junkets.Nobody produces more waste per head than these overpaid spouters of Humbug, and their EU oligarchy pals !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Um, 11 years Really? I think by 2020 should be achievable 🤔 Aim higher UN

11 years, wake up! What pollution caused by its production alone, let alone its by-product pollution hazard ! Worse than fossil fuels ?

WOW, is awesome, but can we not do it earlier ..... 2020? Why not earlier.

Needs to be quicker

UN is good, very good at issuing “resolutions”. Bravo 👏🏻! UN

“Pledging” on a non-binding agreement.

Welcome to the introduction to Agenda 21 everyone 2030

Now do sexual assault by peacekeepers and UN officials

To little to late perhaps the adults should step aside and allow the young to take over they have a much better understanding on how us older people have allowed the rich to ruin this planet

That’s big of ya. A whole 11 years

No doubt in 2030 they will pledge to reduce it by 2040.. Its always the next generations problem.

There will be no life on Earth by that date so maybe it will be reduced by then
