The two men walked up and down the aisle, waving about, with their masks around their necks.

A Spanish newspaper wrote that the men’s behaviour ‘was rather unpleasant and not very exemplary. They were disturbing the other passengers throughout the trip.‘Their shouting caused discomfort to others, who could not rest or simply be calm for the time that the flight lasted.’

The Civil Guard was alerted by Iberia, the airline operating the flight from Tenerife to Madrid, and boarded the plane once it had landed in the Spanish capital. The two men were then escorted away by police who had been waiting for them at the airport. The men face fines for refusing to wear a mask, as well as possible public disorder. Iberia’s website makes it clear that all coronavirus safety regulations, including the wearing of face masks, have to be respected.

Coronavirus cases continue to grow in Europe, where Spain recorded 7,039 new cases yesterday. The country also saw 167 new deaths from the virus across the last three days.
