Would you be willing to quarantine for a holiday?

Travellers pack into Split International Airport in Croatia with less than 24 hours to go before the country is added to the UK’s ‘red list’ requiring 14 days of quarantine

Yesterday Transport Secretary Grant Shapps warned people that they should only go on holiday abroad if they are willing to unexpectedly quarantine upon their return.He was caught out himself when the government rapidly changed its advice over travel to Spain while he was on holiday.Mr Shapps warned any air bridge could be axed at short notice, tweeting: ‘As with all air bridge countries, please be aware that things can change quickly.

They include: estimated prevalence of Covid-19 in a country; the level and rate of change in the incidence of confirmed positive cases; the extent of testing in a country, the testing regime and test positivity; the extent to which cases can be accounted for by a contained outbreak as opposed to more general transmission in the community; government actions and ‘other relevant epidemiological information’.

Tourists arrived at the airport in Croatia, many cutting holidays short in order to get home before the quarantine hit Passengers arriving in the UK from Croatia, Austria and Trinidad and Tobago will now have to quarantine for 14 days, while Portugal has been added to the travel corridor list.Two-week quarantine rules for all UK arrivals come into force in efforts to guard against a second wave of coronavirus.

The Welsh Government and the Northern Ireland Executive decide on the same approach, while the Scottish Government produces a list of just 39 countries.Serbia is removed from England’s quarantine-free list on the day the “air bridges” policy is implemented.
