Artistic inspirations and female independece were running high at Tory Burch’s A/W 2020 show this morning. The uptown galleries of Sotheby’s had been specially outfitted with porcelain artworks by New York sculptor Francesca DiMattio, who ‘knits’ fabric threads into figurative giant sculptures. Burch also cited the frustrations of ‘Judith Leyster, one of the great Dutch Masters, was misattributed after her death simply because she was a woman’.Hits were plentiful.

Evening dresses in exuberantly printed silk with sequinned flourishes made ‘artful’ feel ‘effortless’. Home-spun knitwear included a bubble gum pink crewneck and a hand-needled Aran with floral patterns. Long boots were as strong as the bags, which now includes the new Elenor shoulder bag.Ed Filipowski, much-loved founder of KCD and Burch’s long time PR and friend, passed away in January. His memory was noted in the programme.
