Erik ten Hag will sample his fourth taste of the Manchester derby when City make the short trip to Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon.
United, of course, were unable to replicate an identical result when the two sides met again on neutral ground for the FA Cup final in June, with City, inspired by an Ilkay Gundogan double, winning 2-1. There was, however, an identical tactic deployed by Ten Hag in relation to his starting line-up, with Fernandes deployed on the right-wing, just as he was for the January showdown back in Manchester.
He has not scored since April and is yet to provide so much as an assist this season. Ten Hag, however, has continued to persist with the 23-year-old, most probably because it was the Reds boss that was desperate to bring him to Old Trafford a little over 12 months ago. That leaves the midfield. How this might look is anyone's guess.
